Skincare plays a critical role in the success of your aesthetic treatments. Whether you’re getting fillers, Botox, microneedling or skin boosters, the way you care for your skin before and after your appointment can directly affect your results, healing time, and long-term skin health.

At The Face Lab, I guide clients from Chatteris, Cambridge, Ely, Huntingdon and Peterborough on how to get the most from their investment through personalised skincare support.

Why Pre and Post-Treatment Skincare Matters

  • Enhances treatment effectiveness
  • Reduces risk of side effects or irritation
  • Speeds up healing
  • Prolongs and protects your results
  • Supports collagen, hydration and barrier repair

Pre-Treatment Skincare Tips

1. Hydration is key
Drink more water in the days leading up to your treatment and apply a hydrating serum (like hyaluronic acid) to help your skin absorb products more effectively.

2. Skip the actives
Stop using retinoids, AHA/BHAs, and vitamin C 3–5 days before your treatment to avoid irritation, especially before microneedling, peels or injectables.

3. Use a gentle cleanser
Opt for a fragrance-free, non-stripping cleanser to avoid barrier disruption before your treatment.

4. Avoid alcohol & blood thinners
Stop taking NSAIDs (like ibuprofen), fish oil, or drinking alcohol for 48 hours before injectable treatments to reduce bruising risk.

5. Prioritise SPF
Sun damage impairs healing and increases sensitivity. Apply SPF 30+ daily in the days leading up to your appointment.

Post-Treatment Skincare Tips

1. Immediate Aftercare (0–24 hours)

  • Keep skin clean and makeup-free
  • Avoid touching or massaging the treated area
  • No intense exercise, alcohol, or heat exposure
  • Apply cold compresses for swelling if needed

2. Days 2–7

  • Continue gentle cleansing and moisturising
  • Avoid active ingredients (retinoids, acids, vitamin C)
  • Introduce calming ingredients like panthenol, ceramides or niacinamide
  • Use SPF religiously—even indoors

3. Weeks 2–4

  • Slowly reintroduce actives (alternate nights at first)
  • Add peptides or collagen-supporting products to reinforce results
  • Stick to SPF every day—sun exposure will undo your progress

FAQs

Can I use my usual skincare after injectables?
Wait 24–48 hours, then resume with gentle products first. Avoid harsh actives for at least a week.

When can I restart retinol?
About 7 days after treatment—start with every other night and monitor your skin’s response.

Is sunscreen really necessary even if I stay indoors?
Yes. UV rays penetrate windows and impact healing. Apply and reapply SPF daily.

Can I get a facial after treatment?
Avoid facial treatments or massage for at least one week post-injectables or microneedling.

Will good skincare make my results last longer?
Absolutely. Well-hydrated, healthy skin holds onto product better and ages more slowly.
